Ajia Namo

Founder & Creative Director

Founder atmosphere on the plateau

Ajia Namo is founder and lead vocalist of the ethnic music group Ajia, and a designer born on the plateau. She grew up inside Tibetan dress and handcraft — pulu weaving, motif, and dye — not as research, but as daily cloth.

She walks workshops in Shannan and Shigatse, learning from older weavers, so each pattern and each length of pulu still carries its meaning. The problem she cuts for is simple: traditional dress is hard to wear every day, and hard to read outside the stage.

In 2015 she established AJIANAMO as chief designer. In March 2017 she became the first Tibetan designer to present at China Fashion Week, with the collection Inspiration and Crossover from the Solar Tribe.

The work now is highland autumn–winter dress with a quiet cut: warmth kept, weight lightened, motif used at the edge rather than piled on. She is a member of the China Fashion Designers Association, and a public voice for Tibetan dress culture on television and digital platforms.
